If you want to maintain a strong, healthy, and beautiful smile after braces, it’s important to take good care of your teeth and gums on a regular basis. To help you do so, our Ora R. Canter, DDS Orthodontics team recommends doing the following things:

-Wear your retainer at the suggested times. Wearing your retainer will help keep your teeth in their current positions, which is beneficial because your teeth will still want to move back to the improper places that they were in before.

-Wait about one month before bleaching or whitening your smile. Your teeth will still be sensitive right after you get your braces off, so waiting will give your chompers time to recover.

-Don’t immediately rush out and binge on the crunchy and chewy foods that were discouraged during your treatment. Your teeth are very sensitive, so eating these foods will not be a pleasant experience.

-Schedule a dental cleaning with your dental team. This step is vital because there are areas of your smile that might have been neglected during your orthodontic treatment. The dental cleaning will help clean those areas and keep your smile in tip-top shape.
