As you age, it’s possible for the structure of your mouth to change, resulting in the unappealing adjustments of your teeth. This is even more likely if you lost a tooth to severe decay or had one extracted.

Invisalign® is a popular and effective treatment for adults who have minor alignment issues. This is a great way to correct the appearance of the smile in a short amount of time. The clear, plastic aligners make it hard for the casual observer to even notice.

At the initial consultation, your Ora R. Canter, DDS Orthodontics orthodontist, Dr. Ora Rosenfeld Canter, will examine your mouth. This will likely include taking some X-rays. This provides an understanding of the structure of your mouth and it also helps clearly define your alignment goals.

We will then cast a detailed impression of your teeth. This impression will be sent to the Invisalign® laboratory that produces your aligners.

To effectively realign your teeth in the shortest amount of time, you will need to wear the clear, plastic aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually stretch the periodontal ligaments that are anchoring your teeth, gradually moving them into their new positions.

Every two weeks, you will switch to another set of aligners that are tuned to bring you one step closer to your personal alignment goals. The average person tends to meet their alignment goals in six to eight weeks.

You can drink normally while wearing the aligners. However, you should remove them before eating food or chewing gum. When you take the aligners out, you should keep them in the case provided.

If you have minor teeth-alignment issues, you should call Ora R. Canter, DDS Orthodontics at 718-278-2441 to see if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign® in Astoria, New York.
